Biography
Diego Tesauro graduated in Chemistry with 110/110 in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1994 at the University of Naples "Federico II", discussing a thesis on the reactivity of coordination compounds. From July to December 1993 he was a researcher at ROCHE (Basel CH). Since 1995 she has been a Ph.D. scholarship at the Department of Chemistry. Since 1998, the scientific activity has continued at the CNR Biocrystallography Center. Since 1999 he has been a certified researcher of General Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry (CHIM03) at the Faculty of Science at the University of Naples "Federico II". Since 2013 he has been involved in the Pharmacy department. IS'
Research Interest
Research in the field of oncology in recent years has required the development of selective diagnostics and drugs for tumor tissues. In particular, the peptides are capable of effectively transporting to cells that overexpress molecule or aggregate membrane receptors. Therefore, research is the study of molecules for tumor diagnosis and selective and specific delivery of drugs. The systems on which we focus are selective systems for somatostatin, cholecystokinin and bombase receptors all over-expressed in solid tumors. The research team's expertise includes modeling studies for new molecule design, innovative synthesis of peptide conjugates, physical chemical analysis of fluorescence properties, circular dichroism and more generally spectroscopic both of low-mass molecules and supramolecular aggregates. Cell binding binders are also conducted to determine the effectiveness of in vitro products. The designed molecules contain a receptor-capable peptide part, a linker of various nature to direct the conjugate bio-distribution and a chelator that can coordinate a radial metal for diagnosis by nuclear medicine techniques, a paramagnetic metal to obtain magnetic resonance imaging. In order to obtain micellar or liposomal aggregates, however, the peptide conjugates are functionalized with hydrophobic chains which make the molecules anhydric and therefore able to aggregate. Mixed aggregates can also be obtained in the presence of an anionic surfactant consisting of a chelating agent capable of complexing a metal that makes it possible to visualize it by various techniques in vivo. In addition, controlled loading and release studies of chemotherapeutic drugs such as doxorubicin are performed to verify effective application in oncological therapy. The results collected over the last five years have produced three international patents and over thirty publications in high impact index magazines.
