Research Interest
Dr. Prosseda's research activity has always been centered on the study of gene expression in bacteria. In particular, in the past, significant results were obtained in the study of the regulation of virulence genes in Shigella. Recently, a research line has been initiated on the molecular mechanisms underlying the evolution of pathogenic E.coli , leading to the characterization of major pathoadaptative mutations responsible for the increase of pathogenic potential on enteroinvasive E.coli and Shigellastrains. One of these involves the speG gene and allowed to characterize the role of polyamines, specifically the spermidine, in the virulence system of Shigella. Another recent research line is directed to the identification and characterization of new molecules with antimicrobial activity.
