Biography

The research activity is mainly directed to the cytogenetic study of animal species, predominantly marine, by classical banners and molecular techniques for the description and characterization of the karyotype, the identification of sex heteromorphic chromosomes and / or supernumerary chromosomes, the localization of specific DNA sequences, identification of chromosomal markers for the characterization of populations and species, the study of meiosis. The cytogenetic comparison between related species is used for the cytotoxonomic study and the evolution of the karyotype, useful for the reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships within the taxa. Many of the species studied belong to groups of Teleostei (anguilliforms, perciforms) and Arthropod fish (decayed crustaceans, fossil insects). Scientific activity is carried out in collaboration with Italian and foreign research laboratories.
