Biography
Maria Cristina Cardia working as a researcher at Department of Life Sciences and the Environment, University of Cagliari.
Research Interest
"The present research deals with the study and implementation of micro-nanoparticulate polymer encapsulating systems that can be used to control, through controlled release, various pathological phenomena such as inflammatory processes and CNS pathologies, gastrointestinal and ocular systems. The polymers used are mainly biodegradable natural and / or synthetic polymers such as chitosan or its semisynthetic derivatives, sodium alginate and others, which have excellent pharmaceutical properties for their biodegradability, biocompatibility and their excellent bioadhesive properties. Polymer matrices are functionalized through chemical synthesis processes to obtain particulate systems with appropriate technological characteristics to optimize the capsule efficiency and drug delivery. The chemical-physical and structural characterization of the synthesized functional polymers and the resulting formulations is carried out using analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, electron microscopy in transmission (TEM), light scattering and UV spectroscopy. The primary purpose of these studies is to find a pharmaceutical formulation that allows to drastically reduce the dosage of the active ingredient and at the same time allow a controlled release into the target sites."
