Biography

Full Professor (1 st October 2015) and Associate Professor at the University of Cagliari since 2001, Rosa Cidu teaches "Geochemistry" and "Hydrogeochemistry" at the Faculty of Sciences. She served as a tutor for several MD and PhD thesis. She coordinates the courses in Geological Sciences (2014-present). She was the coordinator of the Earth Science PhD course at the University of Cagliari in 2009-2012. Her research activity over the past 20 years was carried out within national (eg scientific responsible in PRIN 2004 and 2007, coordinator in PRIN 2009 and RAS 2010) and international (EC funding) research programs. Research has been devoted to water-rock interaction studies in geothermal exploration (Sardinia and Morocco), hydrogeochemical gold prospecting (UK and Sardinia in collaboration with Progemisa, British Geological Survey and Antwerp University), and environmental impact of mining on the aquatic system in collaboration with researchers from Europe, USA and South America. As Invited Professor, he attended short courses devoted to promoting the potential application of hydrogeochemical methods in environmental issues, eg Univesidad Bahia (Salvador, Brazil, 2000 and 2001); Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Mendoza, Argentina, September 2003); Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL, Swiss, June 2005); Jena University (Germany, January 2009). She contributed in organizing the WRI-10 (10th International Symposium on Water-Rock Interaction held in 2001) as editor of the proceedings (2 volumes published by Balkema, Rotterdam, 2001). She was co-Editor in the Applied Geochemistry Special Issue (vol. 18, 9, 2003) devoted to Arsenic Geochemistry. She organized the International Symposium IMWA 2007: Water in Mining Environments (held in Cagliari, Italy, in May 2007); together with Franco Frau was the editor of the proceedings, and special issues of Mine Water and the Environment (Springer) and Journal of Geochemical Exploration (Elsevier). She serves several international journals as a reviewer. She is a member of the Societies IAGC, AAG, SOGEI, SIMP, and elected member of the Executive Council of the International Mine Water Association (IMWA, Recent studies are mainly devoted to the understanding of geochemical processes affecting the mobility and dispersion of river and groundwater, such as Hg, Cd, Pb, As, Sb, U, REE, with special attention to areas interested by active and past mining (eg Sardinia, Chile, Argentina and Brasil). She published several full papers in peer-review journals (59 documents in Scopus, with h index 17, January 2017) and short papers in conference proceedings. For her research activity she received awards from the Water-Rock Interaction Group (2007) and the International Association of Geo-Chemistry (IAGC Certificate of Recognition for outstanding scientific achievement in Aqueous Geochemistry, 2008). She received the National Scientific Habilitation for qualification of Full Professor ( The band ) in January 2014 (ASN MIUR - candidates 2012).
