Biography
Giovanna Tropea Garzia, born in Catania on 3/3/1960, graduated in Agricultural Sciences in 1985 with absolute marks and praise, discussing a thesis held at the Institute of Agricultural Entomology of the University of Catania from title "Organic and integrated fight against Tetranychus urticae Koch on strawberries in the field and in a protected environment". After completing his diploma, he continued to work in research and collaboration at the Institute, as a contractor, mainly on issues related to the biological and integrated control of phytophagous cultures of protected and full-field crops. In February 1990 he took over as a seventh-level technical-scientific collaborator, collaborating with the Agricultural Acelology and Agricultural Entomology Chairs and by carrying out laboratory and field research on the main arthropods damaging to protected crops and their natural antagonists. Regarding the scientific and training activity, Dr. Tropea Garzia has attended various training courses organized by the CEE in collaboration with the International Organization of Biological Fighting. In 1991 he was awarded a specialization and refinement scholarship, banned by MPI, at a foreign university institution; During this period he completed his knowledge in the field of biological control at Antibes (F) Institute at the National Institute of Recherche Agronomique (INRA - Station de Zoologie et de Lutte Biologique). Researcher confirmed since 2001 at the University of Catania (I), currently in service at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the same University. He has held courses in Agricultural Acarology, General Zoology, Agricultural Parasitology, Animal Parasitology at the University of Catania, Methods of Protection of Mediterranean Agroecosystems from Phytofolk.
Research Interest
Competence in the field of applied morphology, biological and integrated fight against arthropods of agricultural interest, in particular of the ortes, ortes protected, vine, olive and ornamental, with specific reference to strategies with limited environmental impact by biological and physical methodologies through the application of selective and / or natural-chemical means.
