Biography
Education and academic path In the academic year 1982-83 he graduated in Civil Engineering, bringing the vote of 110/110 and praise. In November 1983 he began collaborating in the scientific and didactic activities held at the Institute of Topography and Rural Buildings of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania. He won the public competition at Associate Professor positions with DM 28 July 1990 and from November 1, 1992 to December 31, 2001 he is the associate professor at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania in the scientific-disciplinary field G05C - "Buildings and technical installations for agriculture ". Declared fit in the Comparative Evaluation for Ordinary Professor at the University of Milan with DR No.217 of October 3, 2000, January 1, 2002 assumes the role of ordinary professor at the same Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania in the scientific field -discipline AGR / 10 - "Rural Buildings and Agroforestry", by the Department of Agricultural Engineering. Educational activities In the academic years 1987-88 and 1988-89, as a contract professor (under art. 100 para. D of the DPR 11 July 1980, no. 382), holds at the new Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Reggio Calabria the teaching of "Rural Buildings and Topography" in the Degree Course in Agricultural Sciences. Since the academic year 1992-93 for the academic year 2000-2001 he is the holder of the "Zootechnical Buildings" teaching and holds the teaching of "Buildings and Plant for Protected Cultures" at the Degree Course in Science and Technology Agrarians at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania. Since the academic year 1994-95, for the 2009-2010 academic year, it has been awarded the monodisciplinary teaching of "Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture Buildings" (6 CFUs) under the three-year Degree Course in Tropical Agrarian Sciences and Technologies and subtropical waters activated by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania at the decentralized headquarters in Ragusa. From the academic year 2001-2002, he is still the holder of the one-disciplinary course of "Construction for Agriculture" (6 CFUs) during the degree in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies of the University of Catania. Scientific affiliations In 1986 he joined the Italian Association of Rural Genius (AIGR), later named the Italian Association of Agricultural Engineering (AIIA), adhering to the Second Technical Section "Agricultural Buildings, Installation Techniques for Related Technologies". In the same year he joined the International Commission for Agricultural Engineering (CIGR), joining the Second Technical Section "Farm buildings, equipment, structures and environment". He then also associates with the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng) and the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS).
Research Interest
He has carried out and conducted research on various topics related to the scientific sector of "Rural Buildings and Agroforestry". In particular, the main topics discussed are: - internal environmental conditions for livestock buildings, with particular reference to the modeling of the internal microclimate, animal welfare, the functionality of spaces and equipment and the safety of workers; - application of computer technology and communication to livestock buildings for the analysis of the behavior of animals kept in intensive farming; - microclimatic control and structural and structural optimization of greenhouses and tanning plants for vineyards; - materials, methods and energy analyzes for the optimization of the soil undercooling technique; - application of computer technology and communication for traceability of certified plants; - constructive and functional features of buildings for the processing and processing of agricultural products, with particular attention to the issues of energy performance of buildings, food hygiene and welfare conditions and health of operators; - the constructive and functional features of traditional rural buildings, with particular reference to techniques of interpretation and valorisation, methods of recovery and reuse and the structural consolidation needed in the seismic zone
