Sabina Iole Giuseppina Failla

Researcher
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FOOD AND ENVIRONMENT
University of Catania
Italy

Biography

In the academic year 1989/90 he graduated in Agricultural Sciences, Technical-Economic Department at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania, with 110/110 votes and praise. In 1991, he passed the state exam for the Exercise of the Agronomist Profession. In 1992 he obtained the degree of "Agricultural Science and Business Management Techniques" in upper secondary schools. Since 1990 she has been involved in scientific activities at the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics and, for a short time, also at the Institute of Economics and Agrarian Policy of the University of Catania. From March 1992 to December 1994, with a training and work contract with private companies, he has activities in the design of databases for the Territorial Information Systems and in vocational training. Since February 1995, at the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics, she has an annual research grant on the topic "Experimental Investigation on Evaluation and Control of Erosion", as part of the Research Program Plurifondo Sicilia (POP) 90 / 93 and participates in research activities at the Institute. In October 1996 he won the competition for a researcher for the disciplinary group G05B "Meccanica Agraria", taking up service from the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics of the University of Catania from December 27, 1996. With DR 6863 / R of 06/03/2000 is a confirmed researcher. Dall'a.a. 2005/2006 is part of the College of Professors of the PhD in "Agricultural Engineering" with an administrative headquarters at the University of Catania. He has been responsible for tutoring for some doctoral candidates and research grant holders. He has also been Head of University Research Projects on various research topics in the following financial years: - 2000-2001: Mechanization in Plant Growths - 2001-2002: Mechanization in Living Farms - 2002-2003 and 2003-2004: Soil preservation machinery and techniques - 2004-2005 and 2005-2006: Evaluation of the mechanized distribution of natural antagonists - 2006-2007: Auxiliary centrifugal distribution in integrated productions in sustainable agriculture. In particular, within the framework of the PRIN 2004-2006 project funded by MIUR "Mechanical Distribution of Arthropods in Biological Fighting in Protected Cultures", was co-inventor of a "Prototype for Natural Antagonists Distribution", for which it was issued the national and international patent for the USA. This patent was considered to be the best of those presented at the University and awarded under the Project PROVARE PON 2000-2006. He co-authored about 85 scientific notes published in national and international scientific journals or on national and international conferences.

Research Interest

Scientific activity mainly concerned the following topics: • Plant protection treatments in citrus fruit, in greenhouses, in vineyards; targeting of targets; mechanical distribution of natural antagonists in protected crops and in the field. • Techniques for conservation work: tests with rain simulator; sowing tests on hard; erosion tests with natural rains; mechanical disruption techniques. • Mechanization of gardening: floriculture techniques; horticultural techniques: sowing and plant protection treatments. • Renewable energy production through the use of agro-food waste. • Mechanization of asynchronous herds and ergonomic aspects.
