Biography
Anna Maria Pugliese has attended the Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florence since 1978. She has been an undergraduate student at the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacy, University of Florence, in the Neuropharmacology Unit since 1984 and has graduated in 1986 with an experimental thesis titled "Effect of gangliosides on the release of acetylcholine from the cerebral cortex into rats with lesions of the basal magnocellular nucleus". In 1986 he obtained the qualification for the profession of Doctor Surgeon. Also in 1986 she entered the School of Specialization in Clinical Pharmacology (4 years). During this period he continued to carry out research at the Department of Pharmacology. Since November 1986 she has attended the Molecular Biology Lab, Institute of General Pathology, University of Florence for six months. From 1988 to 1990 he was a fellow GESCO (Italian Consortium Technologies eFarmaci and aging). In 1990 he received his specialization in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Florence with the highest marks and praise (70/70 and praise). Title of the thesis: "Pharmacological modulation of hippocampal neurotransmission in CA1 region". In 1995 he obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Florence (VI cycle). Title of thesis: "Pharmacological modulation of hippocampal neurotransmission: electrophysiological study" in vitro ". From 1995 to the end of 1996 she has been awarded a research contract under the National Pharmacy Fund (Pharmacia-Upjohn Funds). In the period 1997-98 she took advantage of the MAUR Pharmacy Doctoral Program in Pharmacology at the Department of Pharmacology. She has held a Research Check (from 1-3-99 to 31-8-00) at the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology, University of Florence. In September 2000 he became a researcher at the Faculty of Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Florence.
Research Interest
1986-2000 Study on serotoninergic modulation of hippocampal neurotransmission. Characterization of the serotoninergic receptors involved in the synaptic plasticity phenomena (by electrophysiological techniques for intra and extra cellular in vitro recording); 2003-2005 Pharmacological characterization of cellular effects induced by marine pollutants, by means of non-invasive cardiomyographic recording technique, in molluscs (marine bioindicators); 2000 to date Study of the role of purinergic mediators, adenosine and ATP in physiological conditions and patterns of pathology in the central nervous system and mesenchymal stem cells in culture by using electrophysiological techniques (intra and extra cellular and patch clamps on cell cultures), immunohistochemicals, and Western Blot.
