Biography
Currently associate professor in Environmental and Space Sociology (SPS10), has been researching and teaching since 1984 at the Faculty and successively in the School of Social and Political Science in Florence. Her teaching activity has been dedicated to the sociology of General Sociology and Sociological Methodology for Projecting and Planning, in courses of first and second level open to students in Political Science but also in Architecture, Geography, Economics and Medicine. From 2010 held the Jean Monnet Chair "The City in European Integration" at the Faculty of Political Science "Cesare Alfieri" in Florence. From 2015, coordinates the Master's degree in "Planning and Implementing Social Policies".
Research Interest
Main fields of research: -comparative analysis of European local administrative cultures, in particular through the participation in the Udite Leadership Study, the first large comparative survey on local administrative elite in Europe coordinated by the Odense University -comparative analysis of European urban systems, mainly in quantitative researches - Comparative analysis of the role of local elected officials and of the decisional process at local level, in particular promotion and coordination until 2006, of the European research "Political Leaders in European Cities. Selection, Daily Life and Values ​​of Local Elected Officials across the Integrating Europe », developed in Italy with the support of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, the Regional Council of Local Autonomies, and in each of the 16 other European countries involved in diversified national funds. The European Mayor, Political Leaders in the Changing Context of Local Democracy, VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften, Wiesbaden, 2006 (eds A.Magnier, H. Heinelt, H. Bäck) , five national monographs in different European counties and about thirty articles. Successful participation in the "Municipal Assemblies in European Local Governance" (MAELG), and "The Second Tier of Local Government" (coordinated in Darmstadt TU and the University of Barcelona). Recent promotion and coordination of a second round of the survey among mayors conducted ten years ago. "The European Mayor II". Based on the same methodological structure, the research aims to control the changes that occurred in the last decade along with crucial dimensions of recruitment and role interpretation and to provide a new thorough description of the mayors strategic orientations regarding budget stress control, service organization, urban planning and local development. 31 national research teams joined the project. -spatial planning practices analysis, in expert committees for municipal urban plans, in comparative assessments, specifically under the profile of citizens' involvement and corresponding analysis of the role of sociologists in planning.
