Biography
Graduated from the University of Milan in 1970, he has taught at the Universities of Calabria, Siena and Florence. His researches are summarized in three authored books and about ninety other principal papers. The researches have focused on the transformations of both historical and current territories in Italy, with surveys conducted at various scales, and especially at the scale of the whole country ( Il bosco nei giornalisti italiani napolonici , Einaudi, 1974, an English synthesis in M. Armiero, M. Hall [Eds], Nature and History in Modern Italy , Ohio University Press, 2010, "Geographical Foundations of Italian History", in History of Italy by R.
