She received the university degree in "Ph.D. in Agricultural Biology (XII Cycle)" during 1996-1999. The public defense of the PhD thesis entitled "Strategies for Tolerance in Plant Systems Adapted to Heavy Metal Concentrations" was held in Pisa on 17/04/2000 reporting a positive judgement and obtaining the degree. On 31 January 2014, she received the national habilitation ASN 2012 for associate professor in the academic recruitment field 05 / A2 (Plant Physiology), BIO / 04 (Plant Physiology), and she received the position of associate professor on 1 November 2015 . Teaching activity From the academic year 2001-2002, for the "Degree Course in Biological Sciences" and "Degree Course in Natural Sciences", Prof. Cristina Gonnelli has a continuous teaching activity in the academic discipline BIO / 04 giving general courses of plant physiology and specialist courses related to her research activity. For "Degree in Biological Sciences" and "Degree Course in Natural Sciences" she was promoter and co-promoter of many degree theses, both bachelor and master ones, and she was also a tutor of PhD theses.

Research Interest

The research of Prof. Cristina Gonnelli uses a wide range of techniques, from those of analytical chemistry to those of molecular biology. It is also interdisciplinary, being connected to pure biology, environment and chemistry. She has favored an integrated approach to metal tolerance, including both fundamental research questions and applied research.
