Biography
1992: Graduation in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies at University of Florence, obtaining 110/110. Title of the thesis: "Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of rigid muscarinic ligands" Supervisor: Prof. Fulvio Gualtieri. 1983-1984: grant from Fidia SpA (Abano Terme, Italy). Title of the project: Synthesis of new presynaptic modulators in antinociceptive systems. 1993-1994: grant from SIMS Srl (Reggello (FI), Italy). Title of the project: "Resolution of the enantiomers of ketoprofen via diasteroisomeric salts and stereoselective synthesis". 1994-1997: PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florence. Title of the thesis: "Design, synthesis and molecular modeling of ligands of nicotinic receptor". Supervisor: Prof. Fulvio Gualtieri 1998-1999: postdoctoral grant from University of Florence. Title of the project: "Design, synthesis and preliminary pharmacological evaluation of a new class of nootropic compounds" 1999: research worker at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Florence.
Research Interest
Scientific activity covered issues related to Pharmaceutical Chemistry, such as the design and synthesis of pharmacologically active substances in order to locate the pharmacopoeia portion. The research involved in particular the synthesis of: 1) central nicotine ligands potentially useful in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease; 2) nootropic drugs derived from piracetam; 3) ligands of the muscarinic or oxyanaline or 2,2-diphenylacetic structure capable of discriminating between receptor subtypes; 4) phenylchylamine derivatives as multidrug resistance (MDR) inhibitors; 5) direct protein activators Gi
