Biography
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery (110/110 and praise) and qualified for the profession of Doctor of Surgeons at the University of Florence in 1983. Specialist in Pharmacology (70/70 and praise) in 1987 and Doctor of Research in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 1992, University of Florence. From 1989 to 1992: Research Associate and then Instructor in Neuroscience at the Department of Neuroscience, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York (USA). From 1995 to 2001 University Researcher and since 2001 Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Florence. Since 1997 Senior Medical Manager at the Pharmacology Unit of the AOU Careggi, Florence, author of at least 144 reports for the Secretariat of the Ethics Committee. Since 1998 he has been a Pharmacology lecturer in the following Degree courses at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Florence: Sports Sciences, Sports Science and Tech, Sports Management, Food Science (and others). Coordinator of the Degree Course in Motor Science. Speaker of at least 112 Graduate theses.
Research Interest
Main (current) research lines: a) Studies on the mechanisms of neuroprotection of mGluR1 antagonists in models of cerebral ischemia and ischemic preconditioning; b) Role of PARP and HDAC in models of cerebral ischemia and ischemic preconditioning; c) interactions between cannabinoids and mGlu receptors in cerebral ischemia models.
