Biography

Born in Lanciano (CH) on 2-10-1955, in 1980 he graduated in Biological Sciences at the "La Sapienza" University of Rome. In 1983 he won the competition for a researcher at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Fac. Medicine and Surgery, Chieti Univ. In 1984, she was for 5 months at the Department of Pharmacology, Medical Center, New York Univ., Dealing with oxidative stress damage in the human red blood cell. In 1992 he followed the Theoretical Qualification Course "Yeast Molecular Genetics" at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Trieste. In 2004 he moved to the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Fac. SMFN, Univ. Florence. At the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Chieti he held the role of Methodist Teacher Molecular Diagnosis (1996-2002), Biology and Genetics (2002-2004) and at the SMFN Faculty of the University of Florence, Genetic Engineering (1992-2002), Laboratory of Experimental Biology II (1994-2002), General Microbiology (2002-2003), Microbiological Techniques (2003-2010), Applied Microbiology (2004-2010), Environmental Microbiology (2006-2012), while at the Faculty of Pharmacy he taught Microbiology (2011 to 2013).

Research Interest

His main scientific research activity concerned: 1) Study glutathione-dependent cellular kinetics processes (PRIN Project). 2) Genetics, physiology and biodiversity of wine yeasts. 3) Functional and evolutionary study of Saccharomyces cerevisiae genes (CEE-EUROFAN project). 4) Morphological differentiation process in S. cerevisiae and its ecological significance (FIRB Project). 5) Molecular typing and analysis of space-temporal structure of populations of hospital pathogens and antibiotic-resistance (Regione Toscana). 6) Study of microbial biodiversity in the rhizosphere of tree plants and weeds to help define a risk index derived from the cultivation of genetically modified plants (EU project, LIFE-DEMETRA). 7) Study of microbial biodiversity in marine waters and sediments of tourist port areas for the monitoring and reduction of hydrocarbon marine contamination (EU Project, MAPMED).
