Biography
Iacopini Enrico was born on 09.03.1948 and graduated in Physics at the University of Pisa in June 1971 and was PhD student at the Scuola Normale Superiore until 1974. His research was mainly performed at CERN, where he was fellow dorm 1977 and then staff member until 1984. On his return to Pisa as a researcher (at the University first and then at SNS) he became member of the UA2 Collaboration that, together with UA1, at CERN the SPS collider was the first two experiment in the world that observe the W and Z bosons. Before his transfer to the University of Florence as associate professor in 1992 where he became full professor since 2001, we also performed a experiment on the weak equivalence principle. In Florence started his activities in the field of neutrino physics, starting his collaboration with the NOMAD experiment (WA96), of which he was a local manager for the full duration of the experiment. The experiment aimed at observing numu-nutau oscillations. In this field, he worked in the analysis of the oscillation channel in which the tau decays into rho and neutrino. In 1998, when NOMAD was concluded, he joined the group in Florence that was cooperating with the NA48 experiment to measure the direct CP violation in two pion decays of neutral K. He began the analysis of the precision of the charge asymmetry in Ke3 and Kmu3 decays and then started an MC study on the feasibility of an experiment, using the apparatus of NA48, able to observe the direct CP violation in the decays of KL in three pions, leading to the experiment NA48 / 2. Since the year 2000 he has been continuously the INFN National Responsible of NA48, NA48 / 1 (rare decays of KS), NA48 / 2 (CP violation in the decays to three charge pions) and finally NA62, the measurement of the ratio of the BR decays K + in positron-neutrino and positive muon-neutrino, is now ending its construction phase to measure the BR of the rare decay K + pi + nu-nubar, in order to verify the validity of the Standard Model, being this decay particularly sensitive to the presence of new physics. The Italian collaboration, initially composed of forty physicists spread over 5 sections INFN (Fe, Fi, Pi, Pg, To), has gradually increased over time, involving other INFN structures (LNF, Rm1, RM2, Na) and arriving today to a consistency of more than fifty physicists, In the long period of approval of this measure by CERN and INFN, Enrico Iacopini has lavished so this comes about, coordinating the various proposals for the initiative and seeking their harmonization in the proposed experiment, both from the technical and financial and human resources point of view.
