Biography

Fabio Almerigogna was born in Pistoia on May 18, 1952. He is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine of the University of Florence - Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine and Director of the Departmental Operational Structural Department of Immunoallergology of the Integrated Biomedical Care Department of the Hospital-University Hospital Careggi of Florence. Education, training and work experience Classical Maturity in 1971 at the Liceo N.Forteguerri di Pistoia. Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1977 (110/110 and praise) at the University of Florence. Specialization in Allergology and Clinical Immunology in 1980 (70/70 and praise) at the University of Florence. Ph.D. in Clinical Immunology in 1989 at the University of Bari. From 1980 to 1990 he has been carrying out research activities as a Fellowship at the Laboratory of the Chair of Clinical Immunology of the Ateneo Fiorentino; in the same years she served as a General Medical Practitioner for the National Health Service. From 1990 to 1992 Medical Assistant of USL 10 / D-Policlinico Careggi of Florence at the Allergology and Clinical Immunology Service. From 1992 to 1997 Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Pisa, then called by the Florentine Medical Faculty, where he served on 01.11.1997. He is a lecturer in the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery, in the Degree Course in Nursing and in Schools of Specialization in Allergology and Clinical Immunology, In Respiratory, Hematology and Otorhinolaryngology Diseases From June 2010 he is Director of SOD Immunoallergology of DAI Biomedicina of the OU Careggi of Florence. The care and research of the facility is focused on internal diseases in which pathogenesis involves functional disorders of the Immune System (allergic diseases, immunodeficiencies, autoimmune systemic and organs diseases, vasculitis, ...).

Research Interest

Physiology and physiopathology of lymphocytic populations, the mechanisms of activation of human B lymphocytes, control of human IgE synthesis, immunodeficiency and neoplasia, immunopathogenesis and immunopathology of HIV infection and autoimmune diseases. More recently, he began to deal with natural immunity and his relationships with the development or inhibition of inflammatory and / or immunomodulatory diseases.
