Francesco Saverio Pavone

Biography

Francesco Saverio Pavone was born in Bari on 23 March 1962. In 1989 he obtained his degree in Physics at the University of Florence. In 1990 he began his PhD in the European Laboratory of Non-Linear Spectroscopy (University of Florence). In 1993 he obtained a diploma of specialization in Optics at the National Institute of Optics (Florence, Italy). Since 1997, she spent a year and a half working as a "Maitre de Conférences Associate College of France" in Paris, working at Paris's "Ecole Normale Superieure" (ENS) with Prof. Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, Nobel Prize in Physics 1997 In 1998 he became Associate Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics of Perugia (Italy). In 2001 he moved as Associate Professor at the University of Florence (Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Physics) and becomes Scientific Manager of the "Biophysics Lab" at the European Laboratory of Non-Linear Spectroscopy (Florence, Italy). Since 2005 he has been an ordinary professor continuing to lead the biophysics laboratory at LENS and Biofotonica at the Physics Department. With regard to scientific experiences, from 1990 to 1995 he works in the field of "atomic and molecular spectroscopy". From 1995 to 2000 he has been involved in atomic physics and since 2000 on biophysics.

Research Interest

He is currently active in the field of microscopy and spectroscopy techniques applied to single molecules and cells of biological interest, and imaging of tissues. Particularly in his laboratory are addressed biophysics of a single molecule by developing new methods of manipulation and detection of individual biomolecules.
