Biography
Giuseppe Coco is currently Professor in Economics at the University of Florence and Economic Coordinator of the Council of Economic Advisers to the Minister for Territorial Cohesion and Mezzogiorno. He is also a Partner in Cerpem, a research company in Bari, and a Founding member of the Astrid Foundation in Rome. Previously he held positions of Associate Professor at the University of Bari, Member of the Unit for the Evaluation and Monitoring of Investments at the Ministry for Economic Development of the Italian Government,Member of the Simplification Unit in the Prime Minister's Office (2004-2010), Senior Economist at the Prime Minister's Office in Italy (99-02), Lecturer in Economics at the University of Exeter, UK (97-99), and Visiting Resarch Fellow at City University, London, (2009-2011). He has been a consultant for CIPE, within the Italian Treasury (03-04), the School of Public Administration (2002-) and Formez (2001-). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Exeter, a PhD in Economics at the University of Naples Federico II, and two Masters in Economics (Coripe-University of Turin and University of York, UK). His research work has also been published in Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, European Economic Review, Small Business Economics, Journal of Economic Surveys, Research in Economics, Utilities Policy and, in Italy, in the Journal of Financial Law and Finance Science and Public Economics. His main expertises are in the areas of regulation, especially in the field of administrative burdens of regulatory utilities and infrastructure policies and regulation, local public services, regulatory reform, and the microeconomics of asymmetric information, especially with applications to the credit market, education, equity.
