EDUCATION AND TITLES  1991: Degree in Geological Sciences at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences at the University of Florence. Thesis: "The Cervarola-Falterona unit in the dorsal of Monte Giovi (Florence)"; rapporteur Prof. Ernesto Abbate; correlators: Prof. Piergiorgio Malesani and Prof. Piero Bruni.  1995: Doctoral degree in Earth Sciences. Thesis: "Permo-jurassic evolution of the basin of Diego-Suarez (Northern Madagascar) and the western margins of Madagascar and East Africa." Tutor: Prof. Ernesto Abbate.  1998/99: post-doctoral scholarship holder for the theme: Eritrean edge and rifting of the Red Sea.  2000: Knowledge of Stratigraphic Geology and Sedimentology. Research Interest

MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS  Paleogeography and deformational history of areas connected to continental rivers and orogenic chains through stratigraphic and sedimentological analysis. In particular:  1. Ethiopian-Eritrean Margin and Red Sea coast. Severe-sedimentary events linked to the Pleistocene margin evolution.  a) Study of the modalities of lifting the margins of the rift and of the development of adjacent depressions obtained from the analysis of the sedimentary sequences of the basins and their deformation history.  (b) ecosystem of Pleistocene hominids and their possible dispersal routes from East Africa to Europe and Asia, with reference to sedimentary dynamics and climatic variations. 2. Madagascar. Evolution of the conjugated margin of Madagascar and East Africa through the study of the permo-cretaceous deposit systems of the Mahajanga and Diego-Suarez basins (Antsiranana).  3. Northern Apennines. Study of depositional systems of the Tuscan anterior (Cervarla and Macigno) and post-collision basins (basin of Mugello, Baccinello and Fiume Santo). Geological survey of areas of the Northern Apennines
