Biography

PIERO TORTOLI graduated in Electronics Engineering at the University of Florence in 1978. At the same university he worked as a fellow, then as a researcher, associate professor and finally as an ordinary professor in electronics engineering. From 1998 to 2004 he was coordinator of the University Degree in Electronic Engineering, then converted to the Degree Course in Information Engineering. Subsequently, prof. Tortoli has been a faculty member for the Master of Science degree in Electronics, vice-president of the Engineering Faculty and a member of the Scientific Council of the Center for Research Enhancement Research. He was Director of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications from 2010 to 2012, Chairman of the Joint Committee Laboratories of his University and Research Commission of his Department from 2012 to 2016. Piero Tortoli is currently Deputy Director of the Department of Information Engineering and member of the Senate Academy of the University of Florence.

Research Interest

The research activity of prof. Tortoli mainly concerned the development of innovative biomedical techniques and instruments. The scientific interest has been centered on ultrasonic ultrasound for medical diagnostics, with emphasis on Doppler imaging and flow metering techniques. In this field, he has been responsible for numerous national and international research projects, supervising about 20 doctoral theses, and authoring over 200 scientific publications (Scopus H-index: 24), most in major international journals.
