Renzo Capitani

Professor
School of Engineering - Department of Industrial Engineering
University of Firenze
Italy

Biography

In 1981, Renzo Capitani graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florence and after having worked in the private sector in 1987, he obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics at the University of Bologna. Since 2001 he has been an Ordinary Professor of Mechanical Design and Construction of Machines (SSD ING-IND / 14) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence. He currently holds the "Machine Construction" courses at the degree in Mechanical Engineering and "Road Vehicle Construction" at the master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has also held in the past the teachings of "Quality, Reliability and Safety in Mechanical Engineering" and "Quality in Machine Design and Construction". In her academic career she has held important positions at the University of Florence. In 2004-2010 he was President of the Degree and Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In the period 2007-2010 he was Coordinator of the Faculty's Educational Commission. From 2010 to 2012 he was Vice-Chair of the Faculty of Engineering. Since 2010 she is a representative of the University in the Regional Committee for Higher Education and Technical Education. Since 2014 she is the Chairman of the Engineering School.

Research Interest

As part of his research activity he has dealt with modern methods of numerical simulation and mechanical reliability and applies them to mechanical and vehicle design, with particular reference to safety issues. It also carries out characterization and modeling of mechanical behavior of materials under the action of dynamic and impulsive loads and of reliable design methodologies with particular reference to safety issues. He has recently dealt with issues of implementation of organizational and occupational health and safety management models to ensure compliance with legislation and improve health and safety levels. In the latter field, since 2006 coordinates the GS research group dealing with safety in the workplace and has been, for some years, an integrative and supportive function for the Prevention and Protection Service of the University of Florence with the aim of ensuring the highest level of security and adequacy to the applicable standards, depending on the various educational and scientific needs of the various Administrative Units. Aware of the institutional role of the University, the group also seeks to promote the culture of security, both in the public and private sphere, through training courses aimed at the creation of highly profile professionals.
