Biography

He was born in Florence May 19, 1959 ; He graduated in Geological Sciences (Degree) on March 14 th , 1984 , with honors cum laude (110 cum laude); He was a pre-doctoral fellow at CNR, Institute of Geochronology and Geochemistry from Sept. 1985 to Jan. 1986; He Obtained the Ph.D. in "Mineralogy and Petrology" on September 11 th , 1989 ; He was a post-doctoral fellow at CNR, Center for the Studies on Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Sediments from April 1989 to March 1990; He was a post-doctoral NATO fellow at the "Max Planck Institut für Chemie" in Mainz ( Germany ) from Sept. 1990 to Sept. 1991; He was appointed as permanent researcher in Mineralogy and Petrology at the University of Florence in August 1991;

Research Interest

Analytical chemistry on all-rock and mineral samples through X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA), Electron Probe Micro Analyzes (EPMA). Isotopic Analyzes on Total Rock and Mineral Samples through Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS);isotopic systems of expertise: 87 Sr / 86 Sr, 143 Nd / 144 Nd, 206 Pb / 204 Pb, 207 Pb / 204 Pb, 208 Pb / 204 Pb, 230Th / 232 Th; 238 U / 232 Th. Petrology, volcanology and geochemistry of volcanic rocks with the aims of elucidating: genetic processes of magma, mantle composition, pre-eruptive mechanisms in active volcanoes, teprho-stratigraphy in recent and active volcanoes. Some interest has been on petrologic studies of artefacts of cultural heritages. Volcanic rocks and magmatic systems in Italy , Spain , Greece , Libya , Yemen , Ethiopia , Mexico , andAntarctica have been investigated and have been the subject of several scientific articles and reports, mainly published on major international journals of the field. Isotope geochemistry of wine, grapes, olives and olive oil and their soil and geological substrate aimed at the geographical traceability of agricultural products and wine terroir.
