Biography

Graduate at Pisa University 12/14/1978. 06 / 1571979-06 / 15/1982 CNR grant holder. 12/16 / 1982-03 / 07/1988 CNR Researcher. 03/07 / 1988-11 / 01/2001 Associate Professor Since 11/01/2001 Full Professor. I have visited the University of Berlin, Augsburg, Linz, Novosibirsk, Rutgers, Versailles, Bilbao, Trondheim, Metz for collaboration with mathematicians of that University. I have been invited as a speaker in national and international meetings on IP: Postdam (1993), Osaka (1994), Linz (1994), Oberwolfach (1996), Gargnano (1998, 1999, 2001, 2011), St. Petersbourgh, ISAAC -2001 in Berlin, Trieste (2001), Sophia Antipolis (2003), Fabes Lectures (2004). Tunis (2002, 2009). In 2005 I have organized a minisimposium in the context of IFIP-2005 Congress in Turin. In 2006 I have organized a minicourse on Inverse Problems in Florence.

Research Interest

I am interested in Inverse Problems (IP) for Partial Differential Equations (PDE). In particular, I have studied the stability issue in linear and nonlinear IP. In the period 1979-1990 I have studied a particularly linear problem. In 1991 I wrote, with Prof. R. Gorenflo (Berlin University), a book on Abel Integral Equations published by Springer Lecture-Notes in Mathematics. Since 1990 I am interested in nonlinear IP for PDE. In particular I have studied IP for elliptical and parabolic equations with unknown boundaries or crack. The main co-workers of mine on the just mentioned topics were Prof. G. Alessandrini (Univ. Trieste), Prof. E. Beretta (Univ. Roma1), Dr. B. Canuto (Univ. Versailles), Dr. M Prof. H. Engl (Univ. Linz), Prof. L. Escauriaza (Univ. Bilbao), Prof. E. Francini (University of Florence), Prof. E. (Christian Politecnico) Malinnikova (Univ. Trondheim), Prof. A. Morassi (Univ. Udine) Prof. E. Rosset (Univ. Trieste), Prof. V. Bacchelli (Milan Politecnico). In the last ten years I have studied some problems of propagation of smallness for the continuation of analytic functions from a measurable set and quantitative estimates of unique continuation for elliptic and parabolic equations.
