Biography
Stefano Cavalieri has been Associate Professor of Matter Structure since 2002 at the School of Science at the University of Florence, he is a member of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and is associated with the LENS of which he is part of his institution. He has taught Quantum Electronics activities at the Master of Science in Physics and Astrophysics and courses in Basic Physics and Physics Laboratory for other Degree Courses in the School (formerly Faculty) of Science.
Research Interest
coherent laser-atomic interaction. In this research field, the first observation of the control of atomic photoionisation was performed with phase difference between two laser fields, the first experimental evidence of the control of the branch relationship in the multifunctional photoionisation of atoms and the first experimental evidence of laser induced structures continuous in the Laser Induced Continuum Structure spectroscopy. For some years he has undertaken a theoretical and experimental research activity inherent in the application of the optical control of the characteristics of a laser pulse and its propagation. The activity has led to the theoretical proposal and the experimental implementation of innovative approaches to the subject. Study and use for high-order harmonics spectroscopy. In this field he proposed and realized for the first time the use of a "Ramsay-like" technique for high resolution spectrophotography in the VUV, XUV with high-order laser harmonics. He has recently proposed and made an original technique based on random sampling. Optical properties of complex systems. In this field he studied the possibility of controlling the characteristics of a random laser. He worked on the study and the realization of a random laser that, for the first time, can be switched on and off by temperature. In subsequent studies it has obtained control of the dimensionality of a random laser through an external electrical field as a control parameter. Currently, I am studying the statistical properties of random lasers with particular attention to the temporal and spectral characteristics of the emission.
