Biography

Alessio Mengoni graduated in biology in 1997 at the University of Florence and in 2000 obtained the PhD in Genetics at the University of Pavia. After having specialized in ecological genetics and various research experiences abroad (Vanaras Hindu University, India, Vrije University, Amsterdam, SCK-CEN, Belgium) in 2007 he obtained a research post in Genetics (SSD BIO / 18 ) And in 2014 he was named Associate Professor (SSD BIO / 18) at the Department of Biology at the University of Florence. Since 2015, he is visiting professor for "Bacterial genomics and systems biology" at the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Gdansk, Poland and at Sun Yat Sen University in Guangzhou, China. Research : Concentrated mainly in the fields of evolutionary and ecological genetics and genomics. In particular, over the past 10 years he has been involved in molecular microbial ecology of bacterial and bacterial genomics, participating in the constitution of a computational biology group (http://www.unifi.it/dbefcb/), under which New algorithms and software for the analysis of genomic and metagenomic data are developed and research focussed mainly on the comparative genomics of plant species bacteria. It is among the participants in the proposal of Spin-Off "EcolGene" of the University of Florence. Awards and affiliations : Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The Open Microbiology Journal and Scientific Committee of the "Pianeta Redi" series of the Florence University Press. He is a member of the Italian Genetic Association and the International Serpentine Ecology Society. Invited speaker at Symposium on Signaling, Environment and Functional Genomics, Korea (2002), at the XIII Meeting OPTIMA (2010), at the International Conference on Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements (2011). Publications (May 2015): 85 articles on ISI and Scopus censored journals. H index = 19, total quotations: 1128.

Research Interest

I am interested in molecular microbial ecology and bacterial genomics. At the moment my research is focused on: I) genome evolution in rizobi; (Ii) comparative and functional genomics of Sinorhizobium meliloti ; Ii) molecular microbial ecology.
