Biography

The main fields of research are cerebrovascular disease and, more generally, neurological diseases linked to aging, and vascular dementia. Author of about 300 publications in major international scientific journals. 2001 - ongoing Professor at the Neurological Clinic of the University of Florence. In progress Director of the Stroke Unit of the Hospital-University Hospital Careggi in Florence and coordinator of the company's Stroke Team. 1997 - ongoing Coordinator of the PhD in Neurosciences at the same University. In progress Director of the Neurology School of Specialization at the University of Florence. In progress Coordinator of the multicentre national multicenter MAGIC (Biological Marker in Cerebral Icus), funded by the Ministry of Health under the 2006 Strategic Program "New knowledge and assistance issues in cerebral stroke". In progress Coordinator of the European Study, funded under the Fifth European Framework Program, LADIS ( Leukoaroaiosis and Disability ). In progress Member of the American Stroke Council and of the European Stroke Organization . In progress Member of the Editorial Board of the International Stroke (American Heart Association), Cerebrovascular Diseases (European Stroke Society) and the European Stroke Conference. 2007 - Ongoing Member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Neurology. 2007 - ongoing President of the Italian Society of Neurogeriatry.
