Biography
Sergio Bernini was born in Florence in 1947. He graduated in philosophy in 1971 at the University of Florence with a thesis on the foundations of intuitionist mathematics (rapporteur Prof. Ettore Casari). He was a DAAD fellow at the University of Frankfurt on the Main and secretary of the Italian Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science. From 1977 to 1987 he taught, in various ways, the logic and philosophy of science at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Calabria. He has been a professor since 1980. Since 1987 he has been teaching at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Florence, first as a professor of Philosophy of Science and then as a Professor of Philosophy of Logic and Language. For some years, He has also been a professor of Philosophy of Science at the specialization degree in Methodology of Research in Social Sciences, Faculty of Political Science, from Florence. He has participated in several conferences as invited speaker and has held lectures and lecture courses at various Universities. His scientific activity concerned: 1. the foundations of intuitionist mathematics (extension of traditional constructive methods); 2. logic systems (new semantics and formal perspectives for intuitionist, modal and quantum logic); 3. the philosophy of logic (interpretation of contradiction in Hegel, of contingency in Leibniz, and theory of belief statements). He has a specific interest in Gottlob Frege, which has led him to deepen and reinterpret the freerian notion of unsaturated and re-formulate, in a probable, non-contradictory manner, the Fregean system of Grundgesetze der Arithmetik. In semantic context, Fregean has elaborated a theory of facts such as denotations of statements.
