Biography

Inquisitive professional with a colourful career and academic background - always seeking novel solutions to enable patient care. I have over twenty years of experience in Investigative Ophthalmology & Vision Science including: investigation, clinical reporting of Ocular Electrophysiology, Psychophysics & Ocular Imaging. My specialist interests include ultrasound & anterior segment imaging: in particular developing standardised methods to evaluate the anterior segment; adapt the investigation according to pathology. Through my academic health science approach I enable translational ophthalmology. My PhD, Masters in Investigative Ophthalmology & vision Science, degrees in Mathematical sciences, Orthoptic degree and a enable me to maximise every opportunity that I have come across: combining clinical, clinical research and academic seamlessly. I am committed to increasing research & clinical capacity and using new imaging techniques to make changes to clinical practice.  Prior to my career within the NHS, I have considerable experience in Total Quality Management within the financial sector. My TQM and Productivity Management Experience has enhanced Clinical Effectiveness within Ophthalmology at BMEC. I have utilised my clinical and TQM background to develop National Occupational Standards for Allied Health Professionals to Ophthalmology as part of the DOH Workforce Planning Strategy as well as being instrumental in launching "AHPO" with the RCO lead for the Ophthalmic Skills Committee. Specialties: Investigative Ophthalmology & Vision Science: Electrophysiology & Imaging, the ability to "tinker" and develop new tools to enable the management of disease and the patients care pathway. Visual Studio Programming experience has enabled me to write my own programmes to present research programmes. Self- taught technical writing experience obtained through PhD.
