Biography
Luca Bertini, born in Erba (CO) on October 25, 1970, obtained laurea degree in Chemistry in 1996 at the department of physical chemistry and electrochemistry, University of Milan, under the supervision of Professor. Gabriele Morosi, with a thesis entitled "Optimization of wave functions with the Variational Monte Carlo method”. In 1999 he obtained his PhD in Chemical Sciences at the department of physical chemistry and electrochemistry of the University of Milan, under the supervision of Professor. Gabriel and Dr Morosi. Dario Bressanini with final thesis entitled "Variety of electronic structures and methods Quantistici Monte Carlo." During the PhD, he was visiting scholar for 10 months in the laboratory of Dr. David Ceperley (1998) at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying nitrogen clusters (N8 azacubane and N20 clusters) at quantum Monte Carlo level using the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) supercomputer facilities. Luca Bertini completed his Post-doc fellowship (2000/2005) at Institute of Molecular Science and Technology-National Research Council (ISTM) of Milan, in collaboration with Dr. Carlo Gatti. Participation NANOTHERME project funded by the European community within the Fifth Framework Program (FP5). During this post-doc, he investigated the electronic structure and the transport properties of thermoelectric alloys, in particular the CoSb3 derivatives using Density Functional Theory (DFT) approach at periodic level. In 2006 he became permanent researcher at University of Milano-Bicocca. His present interests are focused on DFT investigations on organometallic and bioinorganic systems. In particular the excited state properties and photochemistry of small models of the [FeFe]-hydrogenases active investigated using Time-Dependent DFT (TDDFT) techniques, and the structural and redox properties of Copper ions coordinated to peptides relevant in the angiogenesis and to amyloid peptides involved in the Alzheimer's disease. Co-author of 40 scientific publications (1999-2016) on journal of international relevance (with referees), on quantum chemistry applied to chemical systems; Co-author of three chapters in scientific books on nanotechnology for thermoelectric materials and Bioinorganic Chemistry; co-author of 12 proceedings of international conferences. Finally he participated in two research projects of national interest (PRIN 2008 – PRIN2011).
Research Interest
Bioinformatics of drug-receptor interactions, Bioinorganic quantum chemistry, Computational methods in protein structures analysis and dynamics
