Biography
OTTONELLO Simone IS Professor of Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Science, Director of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Member of the PhD in Biotechnology and Coordinator of the Master Degree Course in Industrial Biotechnology.
Research Interest
genomics, eukaryotic gene expression, protein engineering and related biotechnological applications. Among these: i) a system based on tRNA genes as a helper for the production of eukaryotic proteins in bacterial cells; (ii) the use of oligonucleotide macroarrays to evaluate the specificity of compounds of pharmaceutical interest; iii) a new system for the construction of recombinant peptide immunogens. Two immunogens of this type have recently been patented as prototypes of new anti-Alzheimer's and anti-papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines.
