Gianni Gilardi

Professor
Department of Mathematics "F. Casorati"
University of Pavia
Italy

Biography

Gianni Gilardi was born in Milan in 1947. He graduated in Mathematics with full marks in Pavia in 1970 and is full professor of Mathematical Analysis since 1980. At the present time, he teaches in the University of Pavia. He has been the chairman of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pavia in the period 1988-1994. He is an associate fellow in the Academy Istituto Lombardo, Accademia di Scienze e Lettere since 2002. He has been the local responsible of a PhD school and of research grants for several years. He gave several courses for ungraduated students, in PhD schools, in the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica "F. Severi", and for teachers in Italy and Switzerland. He is author or coauthor of eight books and of several papers. He gave a number of talks in Italy and abroad (Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Japan, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, U.S.A.). He contributed to the organization of a number of conferences and courses. His main field of research is nonlinear PDEs, in particular free boundary problems and phase transition models (see also the research fields in Mathematical Analysis and Applications of the Math Dept "F. Casorati").
