Biography

Dr Antonella Cartoni graduated cum laude in Chemistry in 1997 at the University of Roma “La Sapienza”. In 1998 she joined the staff of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, where she was involved in the study of gas phase ion chemistry by mass spectrometric techniques. She received the PhD in Chemistry in 2001, with a PhD thesis concerning the study of the gas-phase ion chemistry of XeF+. She also used mass spectrometry to characterize and quantify biomolecules in animal and human tissues. In 1999 she received a grant for “Young Research Scientists” from National Research Ministry for the research project: “Characterization and quantification of cannabinoids molecules in biological samples by mass spectrometry”. As a PhD student she worked at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) with sector-field and Fourier Transform ion Cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometers. In 2000 she became responsible for the Mass Spectrometric Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Industry Menarini Ricerche S.p.A. of Pomezia (Rome). She was a member of a multiple project team expert in structural elucidation of novel molecules utilising various techniques: Mass Spectrometry, NMR, UV, HPLC, GC and Drug Design. In 2003 she had a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. Since 2005 she is a researcher of the University of Rome Sapienza.
