Biography
Carlo Galli was born in Rome in 1949, and graduated there in Chemistry in 1972. Following a position as a Research Fellow (1976-88) of the CNR in Rome at the Centro Meccanismi di Reazione (CMR), presently a section of the Institute of Chemical Methodologies (IMC) of CNR, he became Associate Professor (1988-90) and then Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome. His scientific interests are in the field of radical and ion-radical reactions and reactivity. He has published 110 scientific papers (h = 25), and received the ‘G. Ciamician’ Medal of the Italian Chemical Society in 1985. He has been post-doc and then visiting scientist in two Universities of the USA, and invited as a main speaker in international meetings. A member of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), he serves as referee for several international journals. At present, he is involved in studies of enzymatic and biomimetic oxidations that proceed through radical or radical-ions as reactive intermediates, the latter ones deriving for example from monoelectronic steps. For the period 2008-2010 he has served as the President of the Teaching Activities for the Academic Degrees in Chemistry, and has been confirmed in this role for the 2011-2013 period. Since the year 2013 he has been appointed as a vice-Dean of the School (Facoltà) of Sciences.
