Biography
"Masters in Geology and in Geography. PhD in Physical Geography. Full Professor of Physical Geography and Geomorphology at the University of Rome ""La Sapienza"" since 1980, of which he has also been Dean of the Science Faculty and Pro-Chancellor. More than 200 publications testify to his scientific activity in different fields of Physical Geography, Geomorphology and Environmental Geology. The most important researches concern Quantitative Geomorphology of drainage basins, Geomorphological Hazards, Volcanic Geomorphology and Shore Dynamics. He has been and is responsible for different research projects financially supported by C.N.R. and M.I.U.R.. He has been Coordinator of the Gruppo Nazionale di Geografia fisica - Geomorfologia of C.N.R., Director of the Institute of Geology, Director of the Department of Earth Science and President of the Degree Courses in Natural Sciences and Environmental Sciences of the University of Roma ""La Sapienza"". He is Worthy Fellow of Italian Geological Society, Honorary member of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology and of the Italian Geographical Society. He has been Vice-President of the Consulting Comittee for the Earth Sciences (National Universitary Council), member of the National scientific Commission for Antarctica, member of the Scientific Council of the National Group for Hydrogeological Disaster Prevention (C.N.R.). He has been for many years Chairmen of the Scientific Comitee of the Ministry of the Environment and President of the Environmental Observatory for High Velocity Railway. He was awarded with the Gold Medal of the Republic of Italy devoted to ""Well-deserving citizens for culture""."
