Biography

Giuliano Moretti obtained the Doctor's Degree in Chemistry in 1980 at the University of Rome “ La Sapienza” under the direction of Prof. Alessandro Cimino. His research career included stays at the Northwestern University (Evanston, USA, 1987-1988), at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA, 1990), and at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Oxford (Oxford, UK,1991). His scientific activity embraces heterogeneous catalysis and surface chemistry and is documented in well over one hundred publications in well-known international journals. In particular, in recent years his work was aimed at the preparation and characterization of new microporous and mesoporous silica-aluminas (zeolites and zeotypes microporous molecular sieves; mesoporous molecular sieves) modified by transition metal ions for their use as catalysts for the NO and N2O decomposition, NOx selective catalytic reduction with hydrocarbons in the presence of oxygen, and in the liquid-phase selective epoxidation of unsaturated cyclic terpenes. Recently he extended his interests toward the photomineralization of organic pollutants in waste waters by using as photocatalysts mesoporous titania (anatase) modified by new porphyrazine macrocycles as sensitizers. Giuliano Moretti was awarded in 1992 a Federchimica Prize for the book entitled “I Materiali Inorganici” co-authored with Prof. Piero Porta. He was also awarded in 1998 a Federchimica Prize for his work on the NOx abatement using modified zeolites and zeotypes as catalysts.
