Biography

Arcangelo Rossi, a former pupil at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, CNR fellow at the Rome Institute of Physics "La Sapienza" and the Domus Galilaeana of Pisa, a professor in Lecce since 1974, has been an associate professor of Physical History since 1980 . From 1987 to 1990 he is associated with the History of Science at the University of Camerino and then from the History of Science and Technology at the University of Lecce where he has been a regular professor since 2000. He is a member of the College of Professors of the Doctorate of History of Science at the University of Bari. He has held courses at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He directed a unit of Lecce of the CNR Cultural Heritage Project (1996-2000). He was responsible for the unit of Lecce of PRIN 2001 on the history of Italian physics of ' 800 and '900. He has long been an editor of the Italian Biographical Dictionary of the Italian Encyclopedia and of the magazine "Testi & Contesti", editor of the magazine "Il Veltro", and in the scientific council of the magazine "Il Protagora". Member of the Board of the Interuniversity Center of Fundamentals and Philosophy of Physics. Member of the Interuniversity Research Center "Seminar of History of Science". He has been a member of several Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science, Fundamentals of Physics, and of the Italian Society of Physicists and Astronomers, and has organized several conferences. He has held numerous invitations to attend various national and international conferences. IS' member of the International Academy of Histoire des Sciences. His research activity concerns the most acclaimed conceptions of the scientific method and moments of the historical development of modern science, from Copernicus to artificial intelligence, also seen in their connection with the developments of technique and the intersection between different disciplines. He is the author of approximately 190 national and international publications.

Research Interest

The research activity essentially focuses on the comparison between the most accredited conceptions of the scientific method and moments of the historical development of modern science, from Copernicus to artificial intelligence, seen also in their connection with the developments of technique and the intersection between different disciplines , in particular between physics, mathematics and life sciences. Another field of research concerns the study of the scientific tradition in the Southern Italy analyzed in its comparison with the European tradition.
