Biography

Born in Grottaglie (TA) on 12/08/1948. Graduated in Mathematics with praise on 24/02/1972 at the University of Lecce (now University of Salento), rapporteur Prof. Antonio Avantaggiati. Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the Faculty of Science MM.FF.NN. of the University of Salento since 1/11/1980. Research lines: Outline problems for equations in elliptical partial derivatives in singular regions (in particular, transmission problems in Sobolev spaces with weight), Variation Calculation (Semi-Continuity, Relaxation), Gamma Convergence, Variation Problems with Free Discontinuities applications to the theory of vision. For several years I have been responsible for local 40% Murst Research Unit (Differential Equations and Variation Calculation). Research projects that I participated in: Two Year Projects in the years 2000/01, 2002/03, 2004/05, 2006/07; CNR Committee for Mathematics, Irregular Variational Problems (Discontinuous Structures); Mathematical Modeling of Image Processing ("Human Capital & Mobility" Project); "Recognition and Image Processing with Applications in Medicine and Industry", Murst, Science and Technology Network Plans, Law 488, Cluster 15 "Image Techniques". I participated in the organization of the exhibition "Over the Compass" (Lecce, February 1997) and the "Celebratory Day in memory of Ennio De Giorgi" (Lecce, 14/05/1997). I was part of the organizing committee of the working day on "Mathematical Methods for Image Processing" (Lecce, 24 January 2003). I have been: Director of the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Lecce from 30/01/81 to 11/03/83; for many years Chairman of the Board of the Degree Course in Mathematics of the Faculty of Science MM.FF.NN. of the University of Lecce; Head of the Faculty of Science MM.FF.NN. of the University of Lecce from the AU. 1992/93 to the aa. 2000/2001; Rector Delegate for "Job-Placement" for a few years. I am a member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Mathematics of the Department of Mathematics "Ennio DE Giorgi". I am a member of the College of Professors of the PhD in Mathematics at the University of Salento. I held courses on the Calculation of Variations for the Doctorate in Mathematics at the University of Salento and held various communications and conferences at national and international conferences (including: Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations, Trento, 1986, in honor of H. Lewy, Differential Equations and Calculation of Variations, Pisa, 1991; New Approaches to Fracture Mechanics, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, 1992; Mathematics and Technology for the Defense and Valorization of Environmental and Cultural Heritage, Lecce, 2005). Chairman of the University of Salento's Assessment Center from June 2006 to June 2010.
