Biography
Paolo Barone graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1980 and specializes in Neurology at the University of Naples Federico II in 1984. He obtained his doctorate in Neuroscience in 1988 at the University of Siena. He completed postgraduate education at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA, from 1983 to 1988. He was a professor of neuropharmacology at the University of Cagliari from 1988 to 1990. He then held the post of technical officer, researcher , Associate Professor and Professor (2008-2010) at the Department of Neurological Sciences at Naples University Federico II; currently holds the position of a professor in neurology at the University of Salerno, Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Baron is the Head of Parkinson's Center and Disorders of the Movement (the only regional center of excellence in Campania for these diseases). It is also the only Italian reference for two international research groups, the Europa project, funded by the European community, the North American-European AMADEUS consortium and the PPMI project of the MJ Fox Foundation. All these projects are dedicated to the progression of Parkinson's disease. He is also a member of the EMSA-SG project, funded by the European community to study Multisistemic atrophy. Prof. Barone's research interests include: characterization of dopaminergic receptors and pathways of dopaminergic system transduction; clinical and neurological neurological diseases, in particular Parkinson's disease and atypical parkinsonism; genetics of movement disorders. He owns numerous research funds, national and international. He is the author of numerous extensible works published in international journals with reference. He has been an invited speaker and chairman of many international congresses.
