Biography

Giulio Erberto Cantarella was born in Salerno on April 16, 1957, graduated in Civil Engineering - Transport on July 26, 1980 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Naples.  Since 1999 he is an ordinary professor of "Transport Systems" at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Salerno.  Since 1997 he has been an ordinary professor (extraordinary since 1994).  From 1992 to 1994 he was associate professor.  From 1990 to 1992 he was a researcher.  From 1987 to 1990 he was a contract professor.  From 1980 to 1987 he was an external collaborator in research projects. The research activity concerned the development and application of methodologies for analysis of transport systems, traffic management on urban networks and transport planning, in particular research has been carried out:  - algorithmic models for the allocation of mobility demand to congested transport networks both in stationary and inter- and / or intra-regional dynamics;  - methods of designing transport networks with discrete (connections) and / or continuous (capacity) (with applications to urban road networks) variables; - models for the analysis of users' behavior of a transport system using interpretative models derived from the theory of random utility, ie with fuzzy utility, or neural network regression models (with applications for passenger mobility, particularly in the choice of way or path);  - methods for regulating and monitoring the traffic of an urban network;  - macro- or micro-scopic models for the analysis of transport terminals;  - Methods for programming the services of collective transport systems, relating to the determination of the main features of the service, such as rates, capacity, etc. . Research results, carried out in national and international research projects (MURST-PRIN, MURST40%, MURST60%, PFT-CNR, PFT2-CNR, AGENSUD, PROMETHEUS-EU, DRIVE II-EU, 4THFW- EU), have been the subject of numerous publications on magazines and books and presentations at international and national conferences.  In the field of research he has developed good relations with many prestigious foreign and national research groups, has been a referee for national and international magazines, has participated in scientific committees and organizers of national and international conferences. Specifically:  since 2012 is associated with Transportation Research part C; from 1998 to 2004 and again from 2007 he is a member of the Innovative Methods Program Committee of the Europe Transport Conference;  from 1994 to 2002 he was a member of the International Editorial Board of the Civil Engineering Systems magazine.
