Biography

Stefano Castiglione, born in Pavia, Italy, in 1961, obtained his degree in Biological Sciences (1985) at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, University of Pavia. In 1988-90 he was a post-doctoral fellow at Enichem America (research on genetic transformation of tobacco and maize with insect and fungal resistance genes). In 1990, he returned to Italy and became a researcher at the Istituto Guido Donegani of Novara (Montedison) (research on the cloning of B. thuringiensis genes with coleottericidal activity). From 1991 to 1999 he has been working as a free professional as a biologist at the University of Genetics. of Pavia and the Department of Biology of the University of. of Milan (research aimed at the study of DNA polymorphisms in plant species and transgenic plants). From 1999 to 2005 he was Researcher at the Department of Biology of the University. from Milan. From 2005 to October 2015 he was Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biology at the University of Salerno. Since October 2015 he is an Ordinary Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biology at the University of Salerno. He is currently President of the Degree in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Assessment and Control at the Department of Chemistry and Biology at the University of Salerno. In the last decade, its scientific interest has focused on the molecular analysis of biodiversity of poplar species and clones in natural and cultivated environments as well as on their use for the contamination of contaminated environmental matrices. He was the coordinator of the UR of Milan (PRIN 2003) and Salerno (PRIN 2005) in two research projects PRIN (2003 - "Optimization of a poplar-based organic fertilizer system for the contamination of heavy metals: selection of genotypes, interaction with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and basic biological mechanisms ", and 2005 -" Tolerance of a clone of poplar to copper and zinc: proteomic analysis and study of the effects of some soil microorganisms "). Stefano Castiglione was responsible for the project "Research and development in biotechnology applied to the protection of the environment" (in collaboration with The People's Republic of China - 2005-2010) and national coordinator of two OIGA (2009-2012) projects set up by the Ministry of the Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF). Stefano Castiglione was also the scientific director of the project "Conservation and conservation of the monumental olive trees of the province of Avellino, agronomic and legal profiles" (TUSERUMONA), aimed at studying the genetic diversity of the olive campaign funded by the Province of Avellino. He is currently responsible for a project funded by the Campania Region, entitled: "Phytosanitary contamination of perennial, industrial and agricultural soils contaminated by heavy metals by metals tolerant poplar clones." olive-tree funded by the Province of Avellino.
