Early Carmine

Biography

Carmine Vecchione graduated in Medicine in 1994 and specialized in Cardiology in 1999 at the University of Naples Federico II. He has been a researcher at the Neuromed Institute since 1995 in the field of vascular pathophysiology and is responsible for the Vascular Physiology Laboratory at the same institute. Since 1999 he has been in the field of care at the Cardio-Neurology Department and from 2007 until 2011 was responsible for the Stroke Unit. He was a lecturer in three-year degree courses at the Neuromed Institute, at the University of Rome, Sapienza. He has had research experiences also in foreign laboratories: in 1998 he attended the PET Cardiology Group directed by prof. Paolo Camici at the Medical Research Council of Hammersmith Hospital in London, in 2001 he attended the laboratory of Cardiovascular Physiology directed by prof. Rudi Bussè at the Goethe University in Frankfurt where he studied molecular mechanisms involved in vascular damage. In February 2011 he has been qualified as Associate Professor in the Scientific Disciplinary Department of Technical Sciences of Laboratory Medicine from December of the same year working at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Salerno. He received the research award of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine and of the Italian Society of Arterial Hypertension. He is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiology and of the Italian Society of Arterial Hypertension. He was responsible for projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health, has participated in numerous national and international conferences as rapporteur and moderator. He is author of over 70 publications on cardiovascular pathophysiology and cerebrovascular diseases. He is Coordinator and Professor of the Degree Courses of Health Professionals at the University of Salerno and Director of the Infra-Departmental Cardiologic Rehabilitation and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases Program.
