Biography

NATO: Naples, 1 March 1968 CURRENT POSITION: Ordinary Professor of the Organic Chemistry CHIM / 06 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno. It joins the Department of Pharmacy of the same University. President of the CdS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. ACADEMIC TITLES: Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Naples "Federico II" on December 16, 1991, rapporteur prof. Luigi Minale, with 110/110 votes and Praise. PhD in "Pharmacologically Active Natural Substances" cycle VIII (1992-1995), tutor prof. Luigi Minale (University of Naples "Federico II"). PRIZES AND AWARDS: In September 2004, in Potenza, under the XXXth National Conference of the Organic Chemistry Division, Prof. Bifulco was awarded the "G. Ciamician" medal for the Italian Chemical Society ("Chimica Organica"), a national prize awarded to researchers "distinguished for research of remarkable originality in the field of Organic Chemistry". RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: from 03-1990 to 12-91 as an internal student at the Department of Chemistry of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Naples "Federico II". From 01-92 to 11-92 he had a Scientific Collaboration Agreement at the same Department (see enclosed documentation). As Ph.D. in "Pharmacologically Active Natural Substances", from 11-92 to 11-94 at the Department of Natural Chemistry of the University of Naples "Federico II", and from 11 to 94 to 11-95 at the Department of Molecular Biology of the Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, California. From 3/96 to 6/96 he had a Scientific Collaboration Agreement at the Department of Natural Chemistry of Naples. From 6/96 to 1/97 he has had a Scientific Collaboration Agreement at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Salerno (Profcio Riccio Group). From 3/97 to 3/99, he was post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Salerno in the group of prof. Riccio. From April 13, 1999 to April 12, 2002 he was Researcher in Organic Chemistry (CHIM / 06). From 13/4/2002 to 2/01/2005 he was Researcher Confirmed in Organic Chemistry. From 3/1/2005 to today he is Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry. Areas of scientific interest: a) Extraction, isolation, structural characterization and conformational studies of bioactive metabolites of marine invertebrates. b) Analysis of interaction between drugs (or more in general ligands) and DNA by NMR techniques, mechanical and molecular dynamics. c) Advanced NMR techniques and ab initio calculations in the structural determination of natural molecules and in particular of their stereochemistry. His scientific activity is attested by 170 publications on widely distributed international newspapers. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES IN ESTONIA: from November 1994 to October 1995 as Ph.D. Student at the research group of prof. WJ Chazin, Dept. of Molecular Biology, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA. From 18-07-96 to 31-08-96 at the research group of prof. KC Nicolaou Dept. of Chemistry, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA. Finally, prof. Mr. BIFULCO was again invited by prof. KC Nicolaou during the biennial July-August 1998. DIDACTIC ACTIVITY: In 1998/1999, prof. BIFULCO has been practicing Physical Methods in Organic Chemistry and has participated in the relevant exam sessions. In the 1999/2000, 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 he has been doing organic chemistry exercises and participated in the relevant exam sessions. In 1999/2000 he held an Organic Chemistry incentive course for the University Diploma in Herbal Techniques. In 2000/2001, 2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2003/2004, he was assigned the post of substitute for the teaching of Synthesis and Organic Special Techniques for Pharmacy degree. In 2001-2002 he was also commissioned to undertake a general Chemistry course in Pharmacy degree. In the A. in 2002/2003 he was entrusted with the post of Alternate Physical Methods in Organic Chemistry. In 2003/2004 he was entrusted with the position of substitute for the Organic Chemistry course for the Degree in Herbal Techniques. In 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 he was entrusted with the course of Organic Chemistry for the Degree in Herbal Techniques and the teaching of Organic Synthesis and Special Techniques for the Degree in Pharmacy. In the year 2006/2007 he was entrusted with the teachings of Organic Chemistry I (10 cfu) and Stereochemistry (5 cfu) for the Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. deputy director of the Organic Chemistry course for the Degree in Herbal Techniques. In 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 he was entrusted with the course of Organic Chemistry for the Degree in Herbal Techniques and the teaching of Organic Synthesis and Special Techniques for the Degree in Pharmacy. In the year 2006/2007 he was entrusted with the teachings of Organic Chemistry I (10 cfu) and Stereochemistry (5 cfu) for the Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. deputy director of the Organic Chemistry course for the Degree in Herbal Techniques. In 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 he was entrusted with the course of Organic Chemistry for the Degree in Herbal Techniques and the teaching of Organic Synthesis and Special Techniques for the Degree in Pharmacy. In the year 2006/2007 he was entrusted with the teachings of Organic Chemistry I (10 cfu) and Stereochemistry (5 cfu) for the Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. He was invited to take a lesson titled "Total Synthesis of Natural Products" at XXX Corbella Summer Course - Organic Chemistry Synthesis Seminar in Gargnano (BS), held in June 2005 at the Feltrinelli Palace of the University of Studies in Milan. He was invited to hold a lesson titled "Practical aspects of quantum mechanical calculation of NMR chemical shifts and coupling constants" at "COST D28: Training School and Annual Workshop" held in Ischia from 19/10/05 to 22/10/05 He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the "Winter School on Physical Organic Chemistry", and in the edition held in Bressanone from 11/01/2007 to 18/11/2007, he presented a lesson titled "QM calculation of Chemical Shifts in the Structural determination of medium size molecules He was invited by prof. Maurizio Botta holds a lesson titled "NMR Methods for Determining the Relative Configuration of Biologically Active Natural Substances" under the "Sixth Symposium Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Chemistry" (Siena, 11-16 February 2007).
