Biography

Claudio Pellecchia graduated with honors in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Naples in March 1984. After a period of research at the US Steel-Chemical Division, Pittsburgh, USA, has been doing his teaching and research activity for over a decade the University of Salerno, where since 2001 he is Ordinary Professor of General Chemistry and Inorganic at the Faculty of Science MM. FF. NN. He has taught in several other faculties, including Pharmacy and since its foundation to date, Medicine. He has held numerous academic positions, including the chairman of the Finance Commission of the University's Board of Directors (2002-2008), Member of the Academic Senate (1996-1998, 2010-2015), Director of the Department of Chemistry and Biology (2011 -2015). He was among the promoters and then President of the Degree Course in Environmental Science and directed two editions of the University Master "Environmental Assessment and Control: Waste cycle". The research activity of prof. Pellecchia mainly concerns the study of catalysts for the production of hydrocarbon polymers and biocompatible polymers from renewable sources and the development of molecular biosensors based on metal-proteins or metal complexes for biomedical interest analyzes. This research activity is documented by more than 150 publications in high-spread international journals and a high impact factor, as well as numerous communications at national and international congresses. It is included in the list of "Top Italian Scientists" of the most quoted Italian scientists with h> 30 ( http://www.topitalianscientists.org/top_italian_scientists.aspx ). For his scientific work, he has received several awards and prizes: Prize for the "Chemical Science" of the National Society of Sciences, Letters and Arts in Naples (1990); Flavio Bonati Award of the Italian Chemical Society (1994); "Born Advanced Fellowship" for Chemical Science (1994); "Federchimica National Award - for a Smart Future" (1997).

Research Interest

The study of catalysts for the production of hydrocarbon polymers and biocompatible polymers from renewable sources and the development of molecular biosensors based on metal-proteins or metal complexes for biomedical interest analyzes.
