Biography

Sonia Piacente was born in Naples on 4/10/66 and graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the Pharmacy Faculty of the University of Naples "Federico II" on 26/3/90 with 110/110 votes and praise. In 1994 he obtained the title of Ph.D. in "Pharmacologically Active Natural Substances". From 1996 to 1998 he received a scholarship for post-doctoral research at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno and in 1999 he received his specialization in Hospital Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Naples "Federico II" with 50/50 marks and praise. In 1997 he was Visiting Scientist at the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG Pulawy). The research activity (collected in about 190 publications) is aimed at the study of medicinal and food plants with the aim of: (A) isolating and characterizing secondary metabolites from plant sources; (B) verify the biological activity attributed to the drugs for each compound; C) evaluate the biological activity of structurally related metabolites in order to identify bioactive natural molecules as potential leads to the development of new drugs; D) Develop analytical strategies for the quantitative determination of constituents of plant extracts and herbal products. In 2010 she was awarded the International Prize of the Phytochemical Society of Europe for her "excellent contribution to phytochemical research". He was the scientific coordinator of the international project "Chemical-biological study of medicinal plants growing in the south-eastern desert of Egypt" co-funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a referee of many international magazines.
