Biography
Maurizio TUCCI Ordinary Professor of Computer Science University of Salerno SYNTHETIC CARD Maurizio Tucci was born in Portici (NA) on 17/9/1963. He graduated in Information Science in 1988 at the University of Salerno. He has pursued research as a CNR fellow at the Department of Computer Science and Applications of the same University in the 1990-1991 year. In 1992 he took office as a Computer Researcher; He has been associate professor of Computer Science from 1998 to 2000; He is currently Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science MM.FF.NN. of the University of Salerno, where from 2001 to 2006 he was director of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics. From 2007 to 2010 he was chairman of the University of Salerno Educational Area Council. Educational activities He has done his didactic and tutorial activity in the course of - Information Processing Systems - Special Programming Languages - Programming - Computer lab - Design of Interactive Systems - Geographical Information Systems Areas of scientific interest His research interests concern: - formal models for the design and realization of visual environments - man-machine interaction - indexing of images - software engineering He has been involved in the study of formal tools for the syntax and semantic description and analysis of visual languages, and for the evaluation of the usability of interactive applications. It has developed image indexing techniques that allow efficient access to image data bases for content. In particular, he has recently studied image indexing techniques based on directional and topological spatial relationships, on fractal encoding, on a one-dimensional representation of object contours. Such techniques have been experimented on a batabase of homogenous and non-homogeneous images. In the field of software engineering he worked on the design of an integrated development and maintenance environment where an expansive set of tools acted on a common form of program representation.
