Biography
He is Full Professor of Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry, University of Siena. He has been the leader of approximately 40 research projects. He has been involved in many national and international projects of sustainability evaluation at different levels: production processes (agricultural industrial, energy, etc.) and territorial (national and regional) systems. He is member of the Standard Committee of the Global Footprint Network. He has organized the Footprint Forum 2006 and the Footprint Forum 2010 (first international meetings on the development of the Ecological Footprint). He is one of the promoters of the Emergy Society. He is member of the Editorial Boards of Ecological Modelling, Ecological Indicators, The Open Agricultural Journal and of The ScientificWorld journal; he is referee for the journals Environmental Science & Technology, Biomass & Bioenergy, Journal of Environmental Management, Ecological Economics, Energy-The International Journal; Journal of Energy Research and Technology, Global Change Biology Bioenergy, Ecological Complexity, Ecological Engineering and Resources, Conservation & Recycling, etc. He has been editor of the section Ecological Indicators of the Encyclopedia of Ecology and of a special issue of the journal Ecological Indicators dedicated to the state of the art in Ecological Footprint. He has been co-editor of a special issue dedicated to the SPIn-Eco project on Journal of Environmental Management.
Research Interest
Research area is Sustainability indicators (e.g. based on Emergy evaluation, Ecological Footprint, Life Cycle Assessment, Exergy analysis, etc.), application of thermodynamics to ecological systems and of kinetic models to systems of environmental relevance.
