Biography
Oronzo Parlangeli is an associate professor in psychology at the University of Siena, Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences. From 2003 to 2009 he was president of the teaching committee of the course of study in Communication Sciences of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the same university. He is currently a professor of "cognitive psychology" and of "knowledge, technology and sustainability". In 1985 he graduated in Psychology at the University of Padua, with 110/110 cum laude, with a thesis in the field of artificial intelligence and with reference to the simulation of the performance of dyscalculists. He then collaborated with the CNR Institute of Psychology in Rome, taking an interest in connectionism and simulation of linguistic quantifiers. Subsequently, for two years (1988-1990), he was a researcher at Olivetti & Co in Ivrea as a usability and human factors researcher, dealing with the development of a methodology for the evaluation of software usability in a laboratory environment. At the University of Padua he then obtained a PhD in Experimental Psychology, carrying out various empirical analyzes with reference to the implicit learning in relation to the management of complex systems. His main research interests concern the study of cognitive processes, such as perceptual and learning ones, and of the relationships between them and ergonomics with particular reference to contexts such as health, training, and safety. And in these areas he has directed and collaborated on several national and European research projects.
