Biography
Fabio Sandrelli was born in Siena in 1948 and he received his master degree in Geology from the University of Siena in 1973. He is currently Full Professor of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology at the University of Siena (Italy). Most of his past research has been focused on the construction of stratigraphic frameworks of Paleozoic-Triassic, Miocene and Pliocene sedimentary successions (continental to deep-water environments) exposed in southern Tuscany. Some recent researches have particular emphasis on the impact of both Milankovitch-driven sea-level changes and tectonics on the final stratigraphic architecture of sedimentary basins. His current research interests mainly focus on the stratigraphic evolution of Neogene Tuscany basins, with particular attention to the time and space relationships between depositional environments, sea-level changes and tectonic activity. Other research aims with the study of the sin-rift deposition, as documented in the Paleozoic-Triassic sedimentary succession exposed in southern Tuscany, to a better understand the relationships between regional tectonic and sedimentation.
