Biography
Enrico Tavarnelli has investigated the structure and evolution of mainly sedimentary cover terrains in orogenic belts, through field surveys and balanced cross-section restoration across the Tuscany, Umbria and Marche provinces of the northern Apennines of peninsular Italy. Ha has contributed to unraveling the complex history of tectonic inversion of the Apennine belt of Italy and of the Maghrebide system of Sicily. His research has then focussed on transpressional tectonics, with studies in the Coast Ranges of California, in the Southern Uplands Terrane of SE Scotland and in the oblique fold-and-thrust belt of Spitzbergen. His most recent research in Neotectonics and Active tectonics is being carried out along seismogenic structures in Tuscany, Umbria-Marche and Lucania (peninsular Italy). At present he investigates the nature and geology of geothermal systems.
